The news article states that Ohio schools will have to use a centralized curriculum focusing on Reading and Language Arts materials and intervention. This is a statewide initiative to implement the new hot buzz “the science of reading”. This hot ticket comes with a whopping $168 million price tag for the state of Ohio to pay out. Truth be told, it is just another con of big business to funnel more money into bigger corporations, into their own pockets, and leave those who are footing the bill and the intended recipients more confused and frustrated than before.
Another truth be told, there are mega bucks to be made on the stupidity or ignorance of a generation or two. Yep, there are two generations who suffer from the lack of proper instruction in Reading and Language Arts. My grandmother who grew up as a sharecropper in the southern fields of Georgia had more understanding of the English language and writing mechanics than our current generation. Big business and our government collude to ensure that children who are truly gifted and talented are suppressed while the ‘simple, obedient, and complacent’ thrive. To simplfy, don’t believe the new initiative of the science of reading because it was all a ploy from the 1980s and 1990s to leave our current generation dumb, stupid and lacking comprehension and writing skills to be critical thinkers and expressive writers. The nation is now grappling with the decsions of their choices from long ago. Period.
